Blackberry-Mint Julep

A traditional Derby Day cocktail, crafted with bourbon, simple syrup, and mint. We ran ours through the blackberry bushes of West Virginia first.

iNGREDIENTS:

2 oz. - West Virginia Fruit and Berry | Mountain Blackberry Bourbon

1/2 oz. - Simple Syrup

3 Fresh Mint Leaves

crushed Ice

fresh mint spring, Blackberries, & powdered sugar optional for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS:

Clap mint leaves between hands to release the natural oils, rub the inside of the glass with them, then let them drop to the bottom of the glass. (save a fresh mint spring for garnish)

Add simple syrup.

Muddle the mint into the simple syrup blending together in the bottom and fill glass halfway with crushed ice.

Add in bourbon and stir for 10 seconds until well mixed.

top the glass with ice until it mounds over the top.

Garnish with a fresh mint sprig, and blackberries, and a pinch of powdered sugar (traditional but optional)

Cheers!

tip: Traditional copper julep cups make great mint juleps as it acts as an insulator and keeps the drink ice cold the way it was meant to be enjoyed.
